Marvin W. Berkowitz, Ph.D.
Sanford N. McDonnell Endowed Professor in Character Education

Dr. Marvin W. Berkowitz is the inaugural Sanford N. McDonnell Endowed Professor of Character Education, and Co-Director of the Center for Character and Citizenship at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and University of Missouri President’s Thomas Jefferson Professor. He has also served as the inaugural Ambassador H.H. Coors Professor of Character Development at the US Air Force Academy (1999), and Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for Ethics Studies at Marquette University (1979-1999). He was also founder and Associate Director of the Center for Addiction and Behavioral Health Research in Milwaukee. Since 1999 he has directed the Leadership Academy in Character Education in St. Louis.

Charles R. Granger, Ph.D.
Curators’ Teaching Professor

Professor Granger earned a B.S. in botany and zoology from Iowa State University, an M.S. in Biology and an M.S. in science education, both from the University of Pennsylvania, and Ph.D. in plant physiology and science education from the University of Iowa. He is a member of numerous professional associations, including the Biology Association for Teachers, the National Science Supervisors Association, and the National Association for Research in Science Education. Professor Granger has received numerous teaching awards, including the University of Missouri system Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching and is Secretary of The Academy of Science of St. Louis.

Carl Hoagland, Ed.D.
Professor Emeritus

Carl Hoagland is the Emerson Electric Endowed Professor of Technology and Learning and the Director of the E. Desmond Lee Technology and Learning Center. He previously served as the Executive Director of The Regional Consortium for Education and Technology, a technology center that served over 30 K-12 school districts in Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois. Dr. Hoagland has held academic appointments at the University of Massachusetts, Webster University, National Teacher Training College in Maseru, Lesotho, Incarnate Word University, Washington University and St. Louis University.

William C. Kyle, Jr., Ph.D.
E. Desmond Lee Family Professor of Science Education

Bill Kyle is the E. Desmond Lee Family Professor of Science Education. He received a BS in Biology from LeMoyne College (Syracuse, NY) and a MS and PhD in Science Education from The University of Iowa. Prior to joining the UM-St. Louis faculty in 1996, Professor Kyle taught middle and high school science in New York and Iowa and between 1982 and 1996 he served as a faculty member at the University of Texas - Arlington, University of Connecticut, and Purdue University. Bill served as the Executive Director of NARST from April 2007 through December 2018. Keith W Miller, Ph.D.
Orthwein Endowed Professor for Lifelong Learning in the Science

Keith W. Miller is UMSL's Orthwein Endowed Professor for Lifelong Learning in the Sciences. His Ph.D. is in computer science, and his research specialties are computer ethics, online education, and software testing. His Des Lee Collaborative community partner is the Saint Louis Science Center. He is also part of UMSL's Technology & Learning Center.
