Natalie Bolton, Ph.D.
Associate Professor

Natalie Bolton received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Louisville in 2008. She also has an M.A. in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies Education, and a B.A. in Secondary Education, Social Sciences major in History and minor in Geography. Natalie's research explores education policy, student achievement, and social studies/civic education. She has a special interest in large-scale assessments, standards-based education reform, classroom-based formative assessment, standards-based grading practices, cognitive sciences, and program evaluation. Clark J. Hickman, Ed.D.
Emeritus Associate Dean And Emeritus Associate Research Professor

Dr. Clark Hickman earned his doctorate from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1993. He studies self-efficacy theory as it relates to motivation to learn, as well as student and instructor behaviors.

Carole Murphy, Ed.D.
Professor Emeritus

Carole H. Murphy is a 20-year veteran of the Texas public school system and an 18-year veteran of higher education. She is an internationally known educator in the fields of educational leadership and social studies education. She has worked as a teacher and an administrator in higher education and K-12 schools. For several years, she taught and was an administrator in the American International School System, Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition, she has been published in numerous international journals in the areas of professional development schools, cultural diversity, technology with students at both the K-12 and university levels, and in helping teachers understand action research.

Phillip Waalkes, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor

Phillip Waalkes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs. He received his bachelor's degree in English and Psychology from Hope College and his Master's in School Counseling from Western Carolina University. After working for about 5 years as a school counselor in a rural K-12 school, he obtained his Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His research interests include the development of teaching and research in counselor educators, career and college counseling for first-generation college students, qualitative research methods, and the development of school counselors.

Shawn Woodhouse, Ph.D.
Associate Dean

Shawn Woodhouse is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education Administration in the Division of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies for the College of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. A Gus T. Ridgel Fellow, Dr. Woodhouse completed her Ph.D. at the University of Missouri-Columbia in Higher and Adult Education.
