Natalie Bolton, Ph.D.
Associate Professor

Natalie Bolton received her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Louisville in 2008. She also has an M.A. in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies Education, and a B.A. in Secondary Education, Social Sciences major in History and minor in Geography. Natalie's research explores education policy, student achievement, and social studies/civic education. She has a special interest in large-scale assessments, standards-based education reform, classroom-based formative assessment, standards-based grading practices, cognitive sciences, and program evaluation. Cody Ding, Ph.D.
Professor

Dr. Cody Ding completed his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He was trained as a psychologist emphasizing developmental psychology, methodology, and measurement. Over the years, he has been working as a professor at universities, teaching educational and psychological assessment, behavioral analysis, and other methodological related courses. His research interests include growth modeling, machine learning, big data analysis, network modeling, multidimensional scaling, and the effects of social experiences on cognition.

Donald A. Gouwens, Psy.D.
Associate Clinical Professor

Dr. Gouwens has served as Department Chair since 2012 and Program Coordinator for the UMSL School Psychology Program since 2001. He is a certified School Psychologist and Licensed Psychologist in Missouri, a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, and is listed in the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. As a clinical faculty member, Dr. Gouwens does not have research expectations associated with his position; however, his expertise in the provision of individial, family, and systems-level psychological services and commitment to organizational change and best practices in schools and the community enhances the courses he teaches and enables him to in...

Charles R. Granger, Ph.D.
Curators’ Teaching Professor

Professor Granger earned a B.S. in botany and zoology from Iowa State University, an M.S. in Biology and an M.S. in science education, both from the University of Pennsylvania, and Ph.D. in plant physiology and science education from the University of Iowa. He is a member of numerous professional associations, including the Biology Association for Teachers, the National Science Supervisors Association, and the National Association for Research in Science Education. Professor Granger has received numerous teaching awards, including the University of Missouri system Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching and is Secretary of The Academy of Science of St. Louis.

Susan Kashubeck-West, Ph.D.
Chair

Susan Kashubeck-West, Ph.D., received bachelor’s degrees in psychology and women’s studies from the University of Michigan, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The Ohio State University. Prior to joining the UMSL faculty in 2001, she taught psychology at Drake University (89-93) and Texas Tech University (93-01). She is a licensed psychologist (since 1993) and her theoretical orientation integrates humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and multicultural feminist therapies. Nancy Singer, Ph.D.
Associate Dean

Nancy Robb Singer holds B.S. Ed. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Missouri—Columbia and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She is also a faculty lead in the English Education program. Her research interests include online support of beginning teachers, investigation of how teachers create and perceive their professional identities and philosophies, and mentoring teachers preparing for jobs in hard-to-staff schools.
