William C. Kyle, Jr., Ph.D.
E. Desmond Lee Family Professor of Science Education

Bill Kyle is the E. Desmond Lee Family Professor of Science Education. He received a BS in Biology from LeMoyne College (Syracuse, NY) and a MS and PhD in Science Education from The University of Iowa. Prior to joining the UM-St. Louis faculty in 1996, Professor Kyle taught middle and high school science in New York and Iowa and between 1982 and 1996 he served as a faculty member at the University of Texas - Arlington, University of Connecticut, and Purdue University. Bill served as the Executive Director of NARST from April 2007 through December 2018. Virginia L. Navarro, Ph.D.
Associate Professor Emeritus

Virginia Navarro, Associate Professor in the Department of Educator Preparation, Innovation & Research at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, received her Ph.D. in educational psychology from Washington University in 1994. A former high school English and journalism teacher in both public and private schools, Dr. Navarro came to St. Louis from Chicago to complete a Masters in Teaching (in English) at Washington University and decided to put down roots in St. Louis raising four children with her husband of 45 years who now serves on the faculty in the College of Business. Her partial retirement plans include spending more time with their six delightful grandchildren.

Nancy Singer, Ph.D.
Associate Dean

Nancy Robb Singer holds B.S. Ed. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Missouri—Columbia and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She is also a faculty lead in the English Education program. Her research interests include online support of beginning teachers, investigation of how teachers create and perceive their professional identities and philosophies, and mentoring teachers preparing for jobs in hard-to-staff schools.

Alina Slapac, Ed.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educator Preparation & Leadership (2017-presently) who received The Chancellor's Award of Excellence in Teaching (UMSL, 2020),  Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award (UMSL, 2013), O.L. Kim H. Song, Professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, received her Ed.D in Instructional Processes from Southern Illinois University –Edwardsville in 1991. Kim is a bilingual in Korean and English, and her main research interests include:
