What is MyCOE?

An introduction to MyCOE's role as an assessment system for course instructors and students.

August 24, 2015 COE Administrator

MyCOE is the College of Education’s platform for course-embedded assessments. This system is available to all COE students in all programs.  It's free, easy to use, and centralizes all evaluation data into one place.  There is no setup necessary.

A developmental assessment system

Throughout the College of Education, aspiring teachers, leaders, and counselors use MyCOE as a tool for developmental assessment. It is designed to recognize and nurture the growth of education professionals by aligning their unique skills and efforts to a shared set of standards and indicators. Candidates choose their evidence and write about their experiences, and they get formative feedback and personalized guidance in return. With MyCOE, candidates can clearly see themselves growing and making progress.

Continuous program improvement and accreditation

MyCOE collects aggregate data that helps the College of Education identify its strengths, enhance its programs, and make important decisions. These processes are necessary for college and program-level accreditation.

FAQ

Faculty:

Do I need to set up my course assessments every semester?
No, once assessments have been setup for a course, assessment trials will be generated for students in each course section automatically every semester.

I have some students joining/dropping my course or switching sections.  Is there something I need to do?
Nope, MyCOE checks every night for updated course rosters.  New students will get assessment trials assigned to them and drop students will have theirs deactivated.

I don't see any assessments for my course. Who should I contact?
If you know that your course has assessments and you no longer find them, try going directly to your My Ratings browser. If that doesn't work, please contact the MyCOE assessment administrator at scope@umsl.edu. However, if you would like to have new assessments attached to your course, please coordinate with your course steward.

What else can MyCOE do for me?
For faculty and students of the College of Education, MyCOE is primarily an assessment tool.  However, more generally, MyCOE is our central dashboard for COE operations and reporting.  It handles room reservations, program marketing, faculty profile management and is under constant development.  If you have question about what MyCOE can do for you, please ask your supervisor, chair, or dean.

Students:

I'm trying to finish my assessments, but when I log in, I don't see my assessments panel anymore?
If the current term has officially ended, try going directly to your My Assessments browser.  If that doesn't work, please contact the MyCOE assessment administrator at scope@umsl.edu.

I see 'Foliotek' mentioned in my course syllabus.  Is that the same thing?
No, Foliotek was the previous service the college used for assessments.  Everything that was in Foliotek was taken over by MyCOE in the Fall semester of 2015.

Do I have to pay for this?
No, MyCOE is free : )

If you have any additional technical questions, issues, or suggestions, please contact the MyCOE assessment administrator at scope@umsl.edu.
