Reports from CPQC subcommittees

  • Education Certification Subcommittee (Julie)
    • Met last week and reviewed lots of programs
    • MACD; 2.75 cum to be removed from DESE requirements for students who have issues with previous GPA
  • Doctoral Dissertation and Travel Grant Selection Subcommittee (Mary)
    • Closed the applications, there are 5 total that will be reviewed to make notification to students on november 14
  • Doctoral Program Subcommittee (Shawn)
    • Passed a new doctoral forms processing and reviewing process through google docs
      • Graduate school has talked about creating an automated system, still under works 
    • Discussed minor curricular courses for all doctoral students
      • Changing Doctoral dissertation proposal course to support more academic writing

Updates from the Office of Educator Effectiveness and Accreditation

  • Brian gave update, the team is still working on AAQEP
  • DTA submission in place of APR, but because of COVID they had a different submission to DESE; MEES and GPA etc are omitted or redirected to MACD for a different analysis

Course and program proposals

ESPP Program/Courses

  • M.Ed. School Counseling
    • Mike moved motion to approve program
      • Doris seconded the motion
        • Two different counseling programs with elementary and secondary emphasis but will move programs into one program in order to meet DESE requirements for K-12 school counseling 
        • Effective August 2021
        • Program was approved unanimously
  • PhD in Education, Counseling Emphasis Area
    • Julie moved motion to approve 
      • Doris seconded the motion
        • Removing the GRE as a requirement for students to be admitted into the program, it is now optional for program admissions 
        • PhD Program was approved unanimously

EPL Program Proposals

  • K-12 Teacher Leader Graduate Certificate
    • Julie moved motion to approve
      • Doris seconded the motion
    • Vanessa came to talk about this new graduate certificate, it is 15 hours and four courses already exist, this K-12 teacher leader certificate will be online
    • Graduate certificate was approved unanimously
  • BSEd in Early Childhood Education
    • Julie moved motion to approve
      • Lynn seconded the motion
      • Program was not updated last year, there were new matrices coming from DESE which is why this program was late in being changed. Everything is now uniformed with requirements
    • The BSEd program was approved unanimously
  • MEd, Elementary Education, Reading / MEd Secondary Education, Reading
    • Mike moved to package two programs
      • Doris seconded 
        • Approved unanimously
    • These programs are the exact same; one is elementary and the other is secondary. All MEds have a four track core coursework and this is in line with the 30 hour MEd program that was previously approved
    • Julie moved to vote
      • Lynn seconded the motion
        • Approved unanimously
  • Elementary Education with Early Childhood Teacher Certification
    • Lynn moved motion to drop this certification program
      • Mary seconded the motion
    • This teacher certification program is not being used at this time therefore the certification is being moved and will be achieved in coarse leaf
    • Drop was approved unanimously
  • MEd Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education
    • Lynn moved to approve the MEd elementary education
      • Mike seconded the motion
    • Updated to reflect the new 30 hour MEd program core program, updated the standard language  
    • Program approved unanimously
  • Minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages K-12
    • Lynn moved motion to drop this minor
      • Mary seconded the motion
    • This teaching english minor is not being used at this time therefore the minor is being moved and will be achieved in coarse leaf
    • Dropped minor approved unanimously
  • Secondary Education MEd, Middle Level Education Emphasis
    • Lynn moved motion to approve program to be placed back in course  leaf 
      • Mike second the motion 
    • Not a new program, this program had been dropped or moved to the archive but not by this committee. This program is for teacher action candidates, it has been updated to reflect the 30 hour core MEd program  
    • Program approved unanimously

Other

  • At the CPQC meeting last month the committee agreed to vote via email for the Social justice graduate certificate under Dr. Matthew Davis after receiving more information about the certificate. The information was provided and committee members voted via email.
    • Proposal was approved unanimously

Next meeting will be Wednesday, December 2nd over Zoom from 1-3pm.
