Updates from the Office of Educator Effectiveness and Accreditation

  • John gave update:
    • Brian gave the update; the office is working on enabling automation for a lot of the assessments to increase assessment completion and to give tools to assessment stewards.
    • Melanie and John are almost done with finishing the Title 2 report

Course and program proposals

Proposals for the Doctoral Programs

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Education
    • Mary made motion moved a motion to approve Doctor of Philosophy in Education
      • Julie seconded the motion
    • The program was updated to remove old a course and there have been new courses developed for this program to differentiate from the Ed.D program.
      • The program was approved unanimously  
    • EDUC 7395: Research & Technical Writing for Educational Practitioners
      • Katie moved to approve this course being added
        • Mike seconded the motion
          • The course was approved unanimously
    • EDUC 7950: Preparation for Writing the Dissertation Proposal
      • Mary moved a motion to approve this course
        • Julie seconded the motion
          • Approved unanimously
    • EDUC 7605: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
    • EDUC 7615: Evaluation of Educational Programs
      • Julie moved the motion for EDUC 7605 & EDUC 7615 will be voted on as a block and these two courses will be removed from the Ph.D. program
        • Katie seconded the motion
          • Approved unanimously
  • Doctor of Education, Educational Practice
    • Mary moved a motion to approve the change for the Ed.D program
      • Julie seconded the motion
    • Changing the title of EDUC 7395 and all students will be required to take this course. With the changes they will work on components of the research proposal, originally students were required to develop and submit a full proposal in this class. Shawn and mile will follow up with Betsy Samson for language and hours posted on course leaf
      • Program changes were approved unanimously

ESPP Program/Courses

  • CNS ED 6370: Clinical Mental Health Counseling Practicum I
    • Katie moved a motion to approve the changes to the course 
      • Julie seconded the motion
    • Changing the prerequisites to make sure it aligns with state standards 
      • Course changes were approved unanimously
  • CNS ED 6620: Advanced Play Therapy
    • Katie moved a motion to approve the changes to the course 
      • Mary seconded the motion
    • Changing the prerequisites to make sure it aligns with state standards
      • Course change was approved unanimously
  • Graduate Certificate in Student Affairs Administration and Leadership
    • Mary moved a motion to approve this certificate credit hour change
      • Julie seconded the motion
    • This certificate is being moved from 18 hours to 12 hours in order to become accessible for more students 
      • The certificate was approved unanimously
  • Sport Management Minor
    • Mary motioned to approve the new Sports Management Minor
      • Julie seconded the motion
    • Karen Boleska is the new professor for sports management and she is developing the sports management minor to ensure that students are getting the foundation along with having an interest in this program. These courses are already approved and live in the college, it is now a minor
      • The minor was approved unanimously

EPL Program Proposals

  • TCH ED 5500: Methods for Teaching Personal Finance
    • Katie moved a motion to approve this new course
      • Julie seconded the motion
    • This course is new for students that are planning to teach financial literacy, this course is apart of a different certificate program with the Economics Department. This course will be taught by someone from the Federal Reserve Bank.
      • The course was approved unanimously 
  • SPEC ED 5989: Practicum I Site-Based Experience
    • Lynn moved a motion to approve this course 
      • Julie seconded the motion 
    • Proposed in 2017 and has been sitting in course leaf. This is a practicum course used only for Teach for America or Teach Residency
      • The course was approved unanimously 

Other

  • Mike Bhar announced that he will be retiring in March of 2021.
