Faculty Assembly

I. Report from Interim Dean – Ann Taylor

Interim Dean Taylor welcomed the faculty and staff back to the fiscal year 2017-18. Interim Dean Taylor also welcomed our new faculty and staff to the college.

New Faculty:

  • Phyllis Balcerzak, EPIR, Assistant Teaching Professor
  • Katherine O’Daniels, EPIR, Assistant Teaching Professor
  • Julie Smith Sodey, EPIR, Assistant Teaching Professor
  • Emily Brown, ESPP, Assistant Professor

New Staff:

  • Kathryn Herring-Black, Clinical Experience

Michael Bahr became the new Director of Academic Programs on June 1, 2017.

Interim Dean Taylor also announced our retirees and departing faculty and staff.

Retirees:

  • Jackie Lewis-Harris, EPIR
  • Carl Hoagland, ESPP
  • Wendy Saul, EPIR
  • Becky Mottl, Administrative Team

Departing:

  • Brian Hutchison, ESPP
  • Ebony Sterling, OASIS

She, also, added that there will be searches for staff for the Administrative Team and tenure track assistant professors.

Also, Interim Dean Taylor congratulated Ellen Meadow on receiving her doctorate degree in Education.

II. Report from the Director of Academic Program

Michael Bahr announced that the Curriculum and Program Quality Committee, CPQC, will meet on September 6 to form three sub-committees.

  • Doctoral Dissertation and Travel Grants sub-committee
  • Doctoral Program sub-committee
  • Education Certification sub-committee

III. Report from the UMSL Campus

Interim Dean Taylor announced that Rick Baniak stated that the COE budget will be our enrollment.

COE based on enrollment estimate: 

  • Undergraduate decreased 3.4%
  • Graduate increased 3.9%
  • UMSL enrollment estimates 5.0%

Interim Dean Taylor announced that we will hear the phase, “UMSL NOW” in the future.  UMSL NOW defined as UMSL offers courses at night, online, and weekends. 

Interim Dean Taylor reported that there will be merit pay increases for staff (central fixed system) and faculty (within college from fixed pool). Raise letters will be mailed out soon.

Interim Dean Taylor announced that President Mun Choi will have two major initiatives that are coming out that is related to The Mizzou Challenge. One is the Inclusive Excellence which will be ____.  She is asked our DCSJ to spearhead for the college.

The second initiative is the 2017 Strategic Plan will be held on October 1 for review and the first draft for all campus will be implemented on December 1.

Interim Dean Taylor asked faculty and staff to share together over lunch the following topics:

  • Your thoughts and feelings about how your work can respond to the rise of white supremacist, neo-nazi and other organized hate groups.
  • An enjoyable personal event.
  • A story or moment of professional growth.
  • Your plan/expectation for the eclipse.
