General Information about SCOPE

It's a developmental assessment system.

Throughout the College of Education, aspiring teachers, leaders, and counselors use SCOPE as a tool for developmental assessment. It is designed to recognize and nurture the growth of educational professionals by aligning their unique skills and efforts to a shared set of standards and indicators. SCOPE empowers each candidate to demonstrate her or his special knowledge and diverse abilities in her or his own distinctive ways. Candidates choose their evidence and write about their experiences, and they get formative feedback and personalized guidance in return. With SCOPE, candidates can clearly see themselves growing and making progress.

It collects data for program improvement and accreditation.

SCOPE collects aggregate data that helps the College identify its strengths, enhance its programs, and make important decisions. Also, this aggregate data is required by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and numerous accrediting agencies, such as the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

It's hosted by MyCOE.

MyCOE is the College of Education's (COE) data system (mycoe.umsl.edu). This new system is available for all COE students in all programs.  And the best news is... it's FREE!  There is no set up necessary.  All COE course-embedded SCOPE assessments will now be available on the new MyCOE:SCOPE.
