Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs

After retiring from a very productive career as a high school counselor, Thomasina F. Hassler earned a Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in Social Justice at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. She has also had the opportunity to work as an educational consultant providing professional development programs for educational institutions and business organizations.

Her public service commitment includes leading the social justice ministry at her church and being involved in an international public service sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In 2019, Dr. Hassler was appointed to the St. Louis County Board of Police Commissioners.

Dr. Hassler has been affiliated with UMSL for more than twelve years. After graduating with the Ph.D., she was an adjunct teaching professor, then a Scholar in Residence committed to academic programming within the Social Justice cohorts. Currently, she is an assistant teaching professor in the College of Education and Director of the Matthew D. Davis Racial and Social Justice Institute.
