Wolfgang Althof, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus

Wolfgang Althof was the Teresa M. Fischer Professor of Citizenship Education and served as the Executive Director of the Citizenship Education Clearing House (CECH) at the College of Education and the Co-Director (with Marvin W. Berkowitz) of the Center for Character and Citizenship from 2005-2016. Prior to coming to UM-St. Louis he was at the Department of Education, University of Fribourg, Switzerland. At UMSL, he teaches courses in Citizenship Education and Qualitative Social Research Methods. E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor in Tutorial Education

Judith Cochran serves as Endowed Professor in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and the Director of the E. Desmond Lee Regional Institute of Tutorial Education (RITE), a collaborative of six universities, Jennings, St. Louis Public and Normandy School Districts and ten youth agencies. Before her selection as an E. Desmond Lee Endowed Professor, Dr. Cochran was the Director of Teacher Education at Wright State University, Assistant Dean of Students at Arizona State University and a Senior Fulbright Lecturer in Egypt and Turkey. Shea Kerkhoff, Ph.D.

Dr. Kerkhoff utilizes mixed methods to investigate critical, digital, and global literacies. Her research centers on integrating inquiry-based global learning with adolescent literacy instruction. For her dissertation study, she was named an International Literacy Association Outstanding Dissertation Finalist and earned the first place award at the North Carolina State University Graduate Student Research Symposium. Alina Slapac, Ed.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educator Preparation & Leadership (2017-presently) who received The Chancellor's Award of Excellence in Teaching (UMSL, 2020),  Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award (UMSL, 2013), O.L.
