Teresa M. Fischer Endowed Professor in Citizenship Education
Wolfgang Althof is the Teresa M. Fischer Professor of Citizenship Education and serves as the Executive Director of the Citizenship Education Clearing House (CECH) at the College of Education and the Co-Director (with Marvin W. Berkowitz) of the Center for Character and Citizenship. Prior to coming to UM-St. Louis he was at the Department of Education, University of Fribourg, Switzerland. At UMSL, he teaches courses in Citizenship Education and Qualitative Social Research Methods. Jacquelyn Lewis-Harris, Ph.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Lewis-Harris received her M.A. and Ph.D.in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2005. Her current research explores the role of indigenous culture and arts in the development of adolescent migrant student's identities and learning within education systems and extra-local communities. She is particularly interested in the function of independent "culture schools" found in urban environments as they often support performance and traditional arts groups while introducing young people to their indigenous cultural history.
Carole Murphy, Ed.D., Ed.D.
Carole H. Murphy is a 20-year veteran of the Texas public school system and an 18-year veteran of higher education. She is an internationally known educator in the fields of educational leadership and social studies education. She has worked as a teacher and an administrator in higher education and K-12 schools. For several years, she taught and was an administrator in the American International School System, Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition, she has been published in numerous international journals in the areas of professional development schools, cultural diversity, technology with students at both the K-12 and university levels, and in helping teachers understand action research.
James H. Wilson, Ph.D., Ph.D.
Jim has been a biologist, educator and administrator for most of his life. Raised in the hills of Northeast Missouri, he received his Bachelor's degree in biology and education from Northeast Missouri State and his MS and PhD degrees in plant ecology from Iowa State. Jim's major interests include environmental interpretation, experiential education and the interrelationship of people and the land. He has taught in the Midwest, Michigan and Colorado. Formerly with the Missouri Department of Conservation in endangered species, natural history and education, he helped develop and supervise natural history programs, nature centers and conservation education programs across the state.
