Wolfgang Althof is the Teresa M. Fischer Professor of Citizenship Education and serves as the Executive Director of the Citizenship Education Clearing House (CECH) at the College of Education and the Co-Director (with Marvin W. Berkowitz) of the Center for Character and Citizenship. Prior to coming to UM-St. Louis he was at the Department of Education, University of Fribourg, Switzerland. At UMSL, he teaches courses in Citizenship Education and Qualitative Social Research Methods. Sanford N. McDonnell Endowed Professor in Character Education
Dr. Marvin W. Berkowitz is the inaugural Sanford N. McDonnell Endowed Professor of Character Education, and Co-Director of the Center for Character and Citizenship at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and University of Missouri President’s Thomas Jefferson Professor. He has also served as the inaugural Ambassador H.H. Coors Professor of Character Development at the US Air Force Academy (1999), and Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for Ethics Studies at Marquette University (1979-1999). He was also founder and Associate Director of the Center for Addiction and Behavioral Health Research in Milwaukee. Since 1999 he has directed the Leadership Academy in Character Education in St. Louis.
Ralph Córdova, Ph.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Ralph A. Córdova Jr. is an educational ethnographer and researcher. He “grew up teaching” as teacher-researcher in elementary bilingual Spanish/English settings in Santa Barbara, CA. During these early years, he collaborated long-term with Drs. Judith Green, Carol Dixon, Beth Yeager and Sheridan Blau, founders of the Center for Teaching for Social Justice at University of California Santa Barbara. Lee Nelson is coordinator of School Counseling in the Counselor Education program. She teaches both school counseling and counselor education and supervision courses at UMSL and is conducting research on social class identity. She completed her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Oregon in 1989. Lee served as a counselor educator on the educational psychology faculty of the University of Washington from 1990-2002 and is a retired professor of counseling psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she served from 2002-2010 (chair, 2006-2008). Dr. Rogers is an educational researcher who specializes in literacy studies, teacher learning and critical discourse studies. Her research focuses on the socio-political contexts of literacy and language education and situates critical discourse analysis within an ethnographic tradition.
