Foundation Endowed Professor in Art Education
The University of Missouri-Saint Louis where his chief responsibilities
include preparing and implementing graduate and undergraduate teacher
preparation and inservice programs, administering
art museum internships, and teaching for a graduate Museum Studies certificate
program. He also holds a staff appointment in Education at The Saint
Louis Art Museum, collaborating with the staff of the Museum in developing
educational materials and workshops associated with exhibitions. He has
been at UM-St. Louis and the Art Museum since 1997, and holds the rank
of full professor with tenure. Prior to assuming this position, he served
for fifteen years on the Art Education faculty of The Ohio State University,
where he garnered an Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. In addition,
he taught public courses for the Columbus Museum of Art for nine years.
Lankford earned his Ph.D. in Art Education at Florida State University,
and has since contributed to his field with over forty book chapters
and articles in professional journals, and numerous keynote lectures
and presentations delivered to local, regional, and national audiences.
His book, Aesthetics: Issues and Inquiry, has been a best seller for
the National Art Education Association since its publication in 1992.
His high school textbook, Themes and Foundations of Art (1995), broke
new ground in its cross-cultural, thematic, and inquiry-based approach
to teaching and learning in the visual arts
