Education
Kevin J. Fernlund has a joint appointment in history and education. In addition, he is the director of the Western History Association and a Fulbright scholar (he taught at Vietnam National University in Hanoi in 2001 and 2002). He received his Ph.D. in history from the University of New Mexico (his specialty is the history of the American West); his bachelors' and master's degrees in history from Northern Arizona University; and he completed the teacher preparation program at the University of Arizona. Fernlund was state-certified in secondary history and the social studies and taught at Coconino High School in Flagstaff as well as Tuba City High School on the Navajo Indian Reservation.
Research and Teaching
Fernlund���s interests include the History of Exploration, the American West, World History, and Using Primary Documents in the Secondary Classroom.
