Education
Dr. Gouwens earned a Doctor of Psychology in School Psychology degree from Central Michigan University in 1994. He is a certified School Psychologist and Licensed Psychologist in Missouri, a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, and is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He has taught previously at Saginaw Valley State University and the University of Arkansas at Monticello and has over 12 years professional experience working in clinical and school settings.
Research
Dr. Gouwens’ research interests include professional issues and training in school psychology, the development and evaluation of prevention/early intervention and behavior management programs. Of particular interest are the educational and psychosocial outcomes of slow learners who were referred but did not qualify for special education.
Teaching
Dr. Gouwens teaches advanced graduate courses in the school psychology and counselor education programs including Foundations of School Psychology, Psycho-Educational Assessment and Intervention I and II, Psychopathology and Diagnosis, and Psychotherapeutic Interventions in School Psychology. In addition to serving as the School Psychology Program Coordinator, he also provides supervision for School Psychology Practicum and Internships.
