Carole H. Murphy is a 20-year veteran of the Texas public school system and an 18-year veteran of higher education. She is an internationally known educator in the fields of educational leadership and social studies education. She has worked as a teacher and an administrator in higher education and K-12 schools. For several years, she taught and was an administrator in the American International School System, Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition, she has been published in numerous international journals in the areas of professional development schools, cultural diversity, technology with students at both the K-12 and university levels, and in helping teachers understand action research.

Dr. Murphy is the former Chair of the Division of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Co-Coordinator of the Missouri Geography Alliance. She has been a member of the Missouri Leadership team for 14 years where she still serves as a facilitator for the Missouri Satellite Leadership Academy. She also serves on the Missouri Higher Education Evaluation Committee that is responsible for setting policy for leadership programs throughout Missouri. At the University level, she served on the Faculty Senate for nine years and currently is a member of the Intercampus Faculty Council and the Academic Advisory Committee to the Provost.

Murphy is an Associate, Tenured Professor in the College of Education, an Associate Fellow with the Center for International Studies, and a founder of the Center for Human Origin and Cultural Diversity (CHOCD). She teaches courses in curriculum design, educational leadership, and has chaired numerous doctoral committees. In addition, she teaches the beginning common doctoral seminar and the three special education administration classes that are required for State of Missouri special education certification. Her research has centered on her collaborative work with Parkway Central Middle School, CHOCD and her international work with the University of West Cape, South Africa and Beijing Normal University, China. She has given workshops on effective instructional strategies and translating brain research to classroom practice in Argentina, Poland, Croatia, and China.

Currently, Dr. Murphy is involved in an innovative partnership between the University of Missouri, St. Louis and Beijing Normal University where she has participated in numerous conferences related to World Geoparks, and in establishing a sister park between Yuntaishan World Geopark, China and the Grand Canyon National Park, USA. She serves on the Board of Directors for the World Geopark Commission sponsored by the International Geography Union and has just returned from Tunisia where she represented the United States on the World Geopark Commission.

Dr. Murphy earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas in 1992, and has been working at the UM-St. Louis since 1991.
