Dixie
Kohn is the vice chancellor of University Relations. He is responsible
for executing the division’s mission and leading the UR staff.
Dixie joined the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2001 after serving
as president at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Mo., for nearly
20 years.
His career includes time as a school superintendent and research aide
to a Missouri state senator. He was an assistant professor of education
at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also served as legislative
director for the Missouri Community Colleges Association, representing
the MCCA before the Missouri legislature for more than a decade. Recently,
Dixie collaborated with the College of Education to organize the MCCA
Leadership Academy, which in its second year doubled the number of
attendees.
In honor of his two decades of leadership at Mineral Area College,
Dixie was awarded the first Mel Carnahan Hall of Fame Award from the
MCCA in October 2001. He is a past president of Missouri Citizens
for the Arts, and was appointed in 2001 by Governor Bob Holden to
the Missouri Arts Council.
Dixie earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1959 from the
University of Missouri-Columbia and a master’s degree there
in 1963. In 1967, he earned a doctoral degree in education at UMC,
and went on to earn a post-doctoral degree in social sciences from
the University of Washington in Seattle in 1970. He graduated in 1979
with a law degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
