John A. Henschke, Ed. D., is associate professor in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, and has been with the College of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis since 1983. Prior to that he was Continuing Education Specialist with University of Missouri Extension for 13 years. He received his Doctor of Education degree in Adult and Higher Education from Boston University in 1973.
During his 38 year tenure with the University of Missouri, Dr. Henschke has authored or co-authored 104 research articles, book chapters, and monographs in the U. S. A. and internationally on adult learning, adult education, human resource development, and lifelong learning. He has delivered more that 265 adult education and human resource development paper, conference and workshop presentations at various state, regional, national and international adult education conference sites, including: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, Gaza, Germany, Hong Kong, Jerusalem, Jordan, Nicaragua, Peoples��� Republic of China, Slovenia, South Africa, Sudan, Thailand, United Kingdom, West Bank, and Mali. He has worked and interacted internationally with educators in academia, corporations and community settings from 84 foreign countries on various adult and continuing education topics. He has special interest in: the art and science of helping adults learn; teaching teachers of adults how to teach adults, applying adult learning principles in conference settings, corporate work environments, classrooms, and online course offerings. He has chaired 35 successfully completed doctoral dissertations, and has been a committee member of 29 others.
Dr. Henschke has received numerous awards and honors during his career including Outstanding Adult Education Service Medallion Award, Malcolm S. Knowles Award for Excellence in Adult Education Program Leadership, Outstanding Adult Educator Award, Distinguished Faculty Award, Adult Education Founder���s Award, Visiting Professor at Beijing Radio and Television University, Outreach / Extension Honorary Society Distinguished Service, Excellence in Inter-American University Programs Award, Chancellor���s Academic Award of Excellence, and Adult Education Distinguished Service Award. He is most proud of being inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame. John has held adult and continuing education leadership positions, including: American Association for Adult and Continuing Education ��� President; Missouri, USA and Para, Brazil ��� Partners of the Americas, Inc., President; Missouri Valley Adult Education Association ��� President; International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame ��� Member, Board of Directors and The Strategic Planning Committee; and, University of Missouri Extension Association ��� Chair of Professional Improvement. He is an ordained clergyman by the American Baptist Churches and the Christian Churches / Disciples of Christ, and served as a pastor and educator in various churches full or part time for 25 years.
