Teacher Certification and Advising
Bachelor of Educational Studies Degree Program

The Bachelor of Educational Studies ( B.E. S.) degree is a professional program designed for individuals who wish to study Education as a scholarly discipline but who do not wish to earn state teaching certification for professional practice. Emphasis areas include those in Early Childhood education and Professional Education studies. The degree provides a solid foundation for students, offering an in depth study of the field of education through core coursework, emphasis areas and an individually designed semester long internship. The emphasis areas and internship are tailor made to students’ professional goals and current or future career needs.

General Education Requirements are outlined in the University Bulletin, found at www.umsl.edu, under the menu item “ Quick links.”

Consult the most current year for the Bulletin. Upon admittance to the university and during the time of completion of general education requirements, students should make an academic advising appointment in the College of Education and request a brochure. To do so, students should contact Pam Clay at Pamela@umsl.edu or by phone at 314-516-5937.
