Teaching and Learning
Welcome
The Division of Teaching & Learning is the primary department for
teacher education degrees and certification programs. The Division
offers coursework at the undergraduate and graduate level, leading to
teacher certification, Bachelor’s degrees (BSEd), Master’s degrees (MEd), and doctorates
(EdD, PhD).
Teaching & Learning faculty members are national leaders in teacher
education research, theory, and practice. The faculty works closely with
local public and private schools, creating partnerships that simultaneously
support the learning of children and adolescents, the continuous improvement
of professional practice, and advancement of educational research knowledge.
The Division offers courses within five undergraduate degree programs: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education (including Middle School
emphasis), Physical Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education.
Secondary education programs (Social Studies, English, Foreign Languages,
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics) are offered through collaboration
with the College of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, the Division works
closely with the Department of Music and the Department of Art and Art
History on teacher education programs in Music and Art. Certification-only programs are available for those individuals who would like to become certified teachers and already possess a bachelor's degree. Students seeking certification can oftentimes apply some of their certification coursework towards our master's degree programs through the Graduate School.
The Division offers coursework leading to Master of Education degrees
in three areas: Elementary Education (including an Early Childhood Education emphasis track), Secondary Education, and Special
Education.
The Division also offers doctoral coursework and provides mentoring
for students pursuing the EdD or the PhD in Teaching-Learning Processes.
