Higher Education Program

Students enrolled in higher education seek positions as faculty, administrators or staff at two-year or four-year colleges and universities and with various government and private agencies.

Knowledge Base Statement:

The Higher Education faculty believe that the understanding of postsecondary institutions is reflective in the following areas:

* Awareness of education and educational research as a lifelong process
* Intergrating teaching, learning, and technology
* Understanding the unique role of shared governance in postsecondary institutions
* Pursuing advanced graduate study in teaching disciplines
* Understanding legal, social, and political contexts
* Student learning and development, including learning communities and curricular issues
* Exploring issues related to faculty
* Critical inquiry, including research courses and internships

Community College Concentration
For those wishing a Ph.D., or Ed.D., in Higher Education Leadership with a concentration in community college leadership, the University offers this program option.

Students can expect to be involved in cohort groups, non-traditional scheduling of most courses, and courses that are Web- based or available through interactive television.

Center for International Community College Education and Leadership (CICCEL)
The Center for International Community College Education and Leadership at the University of Missouri-St. Louis was created to assist countries and Ministries of Education with development of educational systems similar to the U.S. Community College system.  This community-based model delivers formal and non-formal education to those who might not otherwise have access to higher education. Community colleges are designed to be responsive to specific economic development and learning needs of the communities in which they are established.

Our programs are designed to benefit a wide variety of higher education and postsecondary professionals:

Two-year college and technical college faculty, staff and administrators
Four-year college staff and administrators
Four-year college instructors
Employees of dovernment, educational, and philanthropic agencies

Course Schedules
Our classes are convenient, designed with working professionals in mind. We have intensive weekend schedules.

Admission
For admission to the Master's degree program, an application and official transcripts must be submitted.

For admission to the doctoral programs, official transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and GRE scores must be submitted. Doctoral students generally receive credit for their Master's program.

Students may enroll for 9 hours as a non-degree student before receiving formal acceptance.
